Denis Paradis was first elected as the Member of Parliament for the riding of Brome–Missisquoi in a 1995 by‑election. During four successive terms as MP, he served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Cooperation, the Minister responsible for La Francophonie and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was also Secretary of State for Latin America, Africa and La Francophonie, Minister of State for Financial Institutions and sat on several parliamentary committees. Defeated in 2006, Denis has worked as counsel with Dunton Rainville. He also owns Domaine du Ridge, a vineyard in St‑Armand. In 2015, Denis was reelected to represent the constituents of Brome-Missisquoi. Before entering politics, Denis practised law in the Bedford area, serving as President of the Association des avocats du Québec and Bâtonnier of the Barreau du Québec. He initiated the partnering of the Bedford and Vermont bar associations and co‑authored Règles de procédure devant les tribunaux administratifs, a book published in 1985. The hard work done by Denis was rewarded in 2005 when he received the title of Commandeur de l’Ordre de la Pléiade. He was also awarded the honourary distinction of Lawyer Emeritus (Ad.E.) by the Barreau du Québec in 2009. Denis has a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Ottawa.
